Featured Vendor: Studio Cake

A little bit about Bethann, owner of Studio Cake, two time winner of Food Network Challenges....

One of my dearest friends describes me as a person who is quick to dream, laugh and do. It is with sentiment that Studio Cake was born - the evolution of a ceramic sculptor, Stanford grad, NASA engineer, kitchen enthusiast and Mom of two, to cake designer and baker. I have a passion for striking textural and functional art and a sweet, buttery tooth to match it. I was once told that walking into my home is like stepping into one of my cakes - a colorful, vibrant, eclectic mix, warm and inviting, alive and full of contagious energy for friends and family - this is the way that I live and bake each and every studio cake. Los Gatos DJ Company is a family owned business, here in beautiful Los Gatos. Because we are so proud of the area that we have grown up in, we decided to name our business after our beautiful hometown. Cassie and Dan, creators of the Los Gatos DJ Company, started their business in 2001 when they met and fell in love. Finding out that they mutually shared a passion for music, family, and taking care of people, they decided to use their talents to create a DJ music company that was based on their strong desire to make people happy. Soon after, friends and family members joined the Los Gatos DJ Company team. By providing exceptional music and customer service for weddings, parties, and corporate events, they have proudly established a strong, credible name that lives up to the town that they grew up in. Things to look for when choosing a Wedding Professional (vendor)

My last post was about organization, a very important element to a successful wedding and worry free planning process, my next is....

Timeliness: This is extremely critical to your planning process, it goes hand in hand with organization.
There is nothing worse than having a wedding professional show up to a in person meeting late, not respond when you are suppose to have a phone meeting, or re-schedule 20 minutes before (unless its an emergency).  The absolute worst  is having them show up late, on your wedding day. Use each meeting, response time on e-mail and return of phone messages as a gauge to how efficient they are with timing. They should never use the excuse with you that they are "so busy" and that's why they couldn't respond to you. We all as wedding professionals (and as people in general) are busy, and if they have too many clients going at once, maybe they aren't the right match for you. Wedding professionals are suppose to be just that, professional. They should be held to the same standards as you would hold one of your associates at work. In a typical business environment you expect that your email or phone call will be returned in 24-48 hours. Especially in the world now of smart phones ect, where many (not all) receive their email on their phone,  most wedding professionals will send you a quick "I will call you tomorrow" or "Let me check and get back with you" to let you know that they have received your message and intend on responding soon.

If Pablo Picasso and Tim Burton had a love child her name would be Linnae Asiel. Daring arrangements from this floral aficionado often incorporate fantastic elements like long-stemmed Black Baccara roses carefully isolated between twisting dried vines adorned ribbon-laced antique french keys or exotic fish swimming in the vase. In her quest to completely deviate from conformity, Linnae vowed to never create the same arrangement twice. She is a floral designer with intense style and extraterrestrial creativity.

Things to look for when choosing a wedding professional (vendor)

Here is one of my top criteria for choosing a wedding professional, as promised..... I will update every couple days with a new tip!

Organization: Everyone has their own definition of organization, mine may differ from yours, that being said, it is important for your wedding professionals and you to be on the same page. They should be able to pull up a file that has all your information on it and be able to talk to you about your event without getting it confused with others. Feel free to ask your wedding professionals how many events they will commit themselves to in a day, for a cake designer or florist having more than one, or even multiple is pretty normal; for a venue ( unless its gargantuan in size) its not.  Also you shouldn't have to continuously remind your wedding professional about details that you have already talked about, nor should you have to wait a week before getting a response on an email or phone call.
